5 Eyelash Extension Techniques Every Pro Should Know
Putting on eyelash extensions takes more than just dipping the false lashes in glue and sticking them onto your client’s natural lashes. To achieve perfect, long-lasting eyelash extensions, there are a few methods you need to master. Let’s review some techniques that every pro should know when it comes to eyelash extensions.
Isolation
Isolation is the practice of separating the natural lashes from one another. This process prevents the lashes from sticking together or clumping, which can otherwise result in an unnatural and uncomfortable feeling for your client. To isolate the lashes, use tweezers to gently separate each lash before applying the extension. This may take some practice and patience, but with time, you’ll be able to isolate the lashes quickly and effectively.
Lash Mapping
Lash mapping is a technique that helps you determine the correct placement of each extension. Before starting the application process, take a moment to map out where each lash should go based on your client’s natural lash line and the look they want. For example, if they want a natural look, you should focus on placing the extensions toward the outer corners of the eyes, whereas for a more dramatic look, you can place them closer to the center. By mapping out the placement beforehand, you can have a clear plan and achieve a more even and defined look.
Lash Placement
If you place the extensions too close to the lash line, they may irritate your client’s eyes. If you place them too far from the lash line, they may look unnatural and not blend well with the natural lashes. The sweet spot for lash placement is approximately 1–2mm away from the lash line. This distance is close enough to the natural lashes for a seamless blend, but far enough to prevent any discomfort or irritation.
Proper Glue Usage
Using too much glue can result in clumping or irritation, while using too little may cause the extensions to fall off quickly. You need to make sure you use enough glue to secure the extensions without making things messy or uncomfortable for your client. Generally, a small drop of glue is enough for each extension, and you should always use a good quality adhesive made for lash extensions specifically.
Correct Application Technique
The proper application technique for lash extensions is to attach each extension to the natural lash, not the eyelid or skin. Hold the extension with your tweezers at a 90-degree angle and gently place it on top of the natural lash, then use a gentle pressing motion to secure the extension in place. Repeat this process for each individual lash.
Applying eyelash extensions is a multi-part process that takes time, patience, and practice to perfect the techniques mentioned above. With dedication and proper training, you can become a pro and send each of your clients off with beautiful, comfortable, and long-lasting lashes.
